Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy
Online & In-person in ohio
Sometimes, it feels like our brains are working against us.
Maybe you have tried working with a therapist before but hit a roadblock with sessions. Or you have been powering through traditional methods but feel stuck in a cycle. When these barriers make it difficult to manage your struggles, EMDR can help you bypass the mental blocks and regain momentum towards your goals.
EMDR allows you to reprocess memories in order to experience the thoughts and behaviors associated with these memories differently. When implemented by a trained therapist, EMDR can provide the relief and changes many clients seek.
Initially used to address traumatic memories, EMDR activates your brain’s internal healing abilities using the guidance of a trained therapist.
WHAT IS EYE MOVEMENT DESENSITIZATION AND REPROCESSING?
During an EMDR session, therapists use bilateral stimulation techniques, such as eye movements, taps, or sounds, to help your brain process and heal from distressing thoughts or negative self-beliefs. As clients progress through sessions, they often report a decrease in emotional intensity and increase in adaptivity.
Using structured sessions, EMDR ensures a foundation of preparation and coping skills to ensure you retain a sense of safety and control in and between sessions. Prior to the reprocessing phase, your therapist will meet you where you are at to ensure you feel comfortable dictating the pace of your therapeutic experience. Through this process, you will be able to process trauma, alter negative beliefs, and overcome mental barriers.
